  Solvang Festival Theater has energetic and exciting performances planned for this summer. The hilarious, camp classic musical, Hairspray, will run through July 31st and Shakespeare’s timeless comedy of love and friendship, Two Gentlemen of Verona, (set in the 1920’s) will be performed from July 15th through August 21st.
 The pièce de résistance of the season is the exclusive American premier of My Fairytale, a musical adventure through the stories of Hans Christian Andersen.

Conceived by Flemming Enevold and scored by the award winning composer of Godspell, Pippin and Wicked, Stephen Schwartz, it has been performed in Denmark as Mit Eventyr, but this will be its début in English. On Saturday, August 27th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hotel Corque, 420 Alisal Road, the design team for My Fairytale, including Stephen Schwartz, Flemming Enevold and director, Scott Schwartz, will appear for the opening night celebration.

  Mr. Schwartz says “I’ve always felt that Solvang was the perfect place to present My Fairytale. The fact that this show, written for Denmark’s bicentennial celebration of HC Andersen’s birth, will now be produced in celebration of Solvang’s centennial makes it seem even more special to me.”  He enjoys the fact that “it can be enjoyed and appreciated on both levels,” by both children and adults. “The theme of the show, about a man coming to terms with who he really is and learning to be true to that, is a universal theme we can all embrace.”
   From August 26th through September 25th My Fairytale will be performed under the stars at the Solvang Festival Theater at 420 Second Street.
